Do you ever wonder why there seems to be such an abundance of one particular trend in every single store you pass by? Why you show up to school one day and everyone's wearing the same style of pants, shoes or dress? Well fashion knockoffs are the basis of teen fashion, because not all of us can afford the real thing ;-)
So cheaper versions, fashion knockoffs, are created for us, specifically for our generation, that resemble what the designers are creating. That's no reason to be ashamed, though. I think it's awesome what we have access to, and that we can pick and choose any style we want.
If you take a look at any new runway show, keep those images in your mind, and then go shopping a few months later, you'll realize a few things. The first thing is that smaller labels, usually boutique-like stores, use the runways as a premise to develop the styles they sell in their stores. They gather the images and information, and they create fashion knockoffs, which are more ready to wear for the national public than what's being shown on the runway. Then you, the consumer, go to that store and buy the fashion knockoffs, completing the trusty cycle of fashion!
The next and most surprising thing is that this is many a fashion designer's goal. There is only a small portion of the world that can afford designer labels, shunning the fashion knockoffs without a care. Most designers understand that. That's why when you see photos from their runway shows and everything looks high strung and over-elaborate, in many cases they're simply showing us something to draw inspiration from, something to copy in as big a way or as small a way as possible. Keep thinking this way when you go shopping, and don't be afraid to create your own wild outfits with fashion knockoffs, using the runway as inspiration!

i go for the style, it's pretty true. many ppl can't afford the real thing, just like me. i go for knock-offs all the time. runway shows are pretty inspiring. i don't mind if it's made by a small boutique. i like to buy stuff that is right for me. not something that i will never wear in my life.

I think that this article is true, but sometimes people buy the label and the opportunity to show it off and know that you're wearing that one really awesome piece. One example would be on why people want their underpinnings to look so nice even if they're going to spend the whole day in in sweats and a t-shirt. The feeling you get from having the real thing is something to note and is nice to have once in a while, but having the financial security that comes from bargain-buying is more practical.

true... I don't really get why people would buy a designer item for like 400 dollars when they could get basically the same thing for $25... designer items aren't realistic for most people to buy

This is very true, but runway fashion still has its own charm, which understandably would look strange walking down the street in. That is why the knockoffs are tone down runway styles.

people tend to pay more for certain items from designers because they are supposed to last longer, but sometimes no matter what you pay the items dont hold up.
i also am pretty sure that designers know their creations will be simplified for the rest of the masses, so that way the whole world can have a taste. lastly sure people wear alot of the same things but its how you put them together and work with them that makes you the individual.

I don't mind when stores knock off a STYLE.
I hate it if its like an exact copy.
Like i bought this really pretty dress shirt from GUESS that took a big chunk of my money out (as i only get about 200 dollars a month from my job). Anyways. A couple months later i see literally the exact same color, design, embroidery, EVERYTHING in an urban planet.
It bothered me cause it's SO exactly the same >.

I think the whole fashion trend thing is lame D:
Because everyone looks alike. We're suppose to be different unique individuals. But yet, if things stay this way. That'll never happen. D:
For example, "I Love BOOBIES" bracelets. D:
Those are soo in now D:
Everyone wears them. But barely anyone gets the full meaning. Guys wear it to be funny D:

So so true.
The Cycle of Fashion-I should totally research that and write an essay on it for the Fashion school i plan on applying to. Thanks for the tip (If its okay with you.)
I think designers are doing a great job but if i become one, i would make sure my designs are affordable. Not $1000 People!
I just got my Steve Madden knock offs and i am so happy. They look real except that they probably would not last for more than one or two years. but i still love them and everyone loves them! and they were $14.80 Katelyn! $14.80? I wouldn't miss that. not at all.
But i don't know about Gucci and Chanel bags because i would not want a bag that would crush in 6-12months. The knock offs don't really look that good and you see so many people with the Louis Vuitton ones and the hands are either coming off or something.
THAT WAS LONG! I KNOW!
SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is most definitely true. However, many times, the major designers are trying to come up with something that is "uniquely them" and end up trying so hard that they come up with awful designs. Yet, they always know that they set the fashion trend for the season with their designs and just about all the designs (with some exceptions) have interesting aspects that can be rearranged with something else to be actually wearable.

A lot of trends do come from the runways and sometimes I think its better for us. The runway has more of a set look. When we get the "inspired look" it has the same concept, yet simplified design. However, this allows us to mix and match outfits and style of our own, with a little runway taste. Im all for it & incorporate your own style! Not a fan of the noticeable knockoffs though, like Gucci purses/wallets-noticeable and tacky.

This is very true. Sometimes, though, those of us who are less creative have a harder time seeing past some of the goofiness the runways exhibit. That just makes it a little more fun, I think; we have to put more effort into using their designs than we would if it looked perfect the way it was.
