A Serving of Food a Day Keeps the Heart Satisfied. By yvonnex0x8
Not a single day goes by every day, more often at school than at home, where I feel my stomach embarrassing me by letting out a loud growl. It is at those times, where I just wish to get out of class and find some food to satisfy my hunger. Although I do not live in an impoverished area of the world, I do feel that many unfortunate souls go experience that feeling of hunger on a larger magnitude than I do. Many people would be willing to do anything for a bowl of food, but sometimes there are many obstacles in the way that prevents them from reaching nourishment. Read more... Link -
The Good Shepherd. By mpa387
Last Wednesday, I volunteered at a homeless shelter called The Good Shepherd Refuge with a couple of friends. For six and a half hours, I fixed beds, I prepared food by taking it out of its packaging, then organizing it into containers, and I also peeled carrots. I was very tired and sweaty at the end of the day. It was hard work, but I was glad to help in such a great organization. The Good Shepherd Refuge is one of the cleanest and safest homeless shelters in the city of Toronto. The shelter would not be doing so well without the support of the community. Read more... Link -
Harvest Food Bank. By hpang
I work at Family Student Housing in my college. This program is to provide housing for people that cannot afford to pay for school and for living. Included in this program are we contacting food banks around us and donation places such as Salvation Army to help these college students in need of assistance? Harvest Food Bank gives us food every Wednesday and we make packages of food to give to our residents. The first time I experienced this event I realized how much we waste as a society. The food that was donated to Harvest Food Bank in the first place were food that was in good condition except it had a malfunction in the printing Read more... Link -
Dont Take Food for Granted. By chelsealm95
I have found that many homeless people ask for money for food, but when I have offered food they reject my offer. These individuals are looking for money not for food but for various items that may not be good for them. So now I greatly respect those who ask for food and not money. Don't get me wrong, I do understand that not all homeless people use the money for useless things...but I would much rather give food than money. My parents always taught me to give. We have money struggles ourselves but we understand that there are people more needy than we are. My family and me have given food to the homeless many times. Recently there was a homeless man in a wheel chair. He had no legs and also no money. We bought him a meal from McDonald’s and gave it to him. It may have been Read more... Link -
Making a differece in my community : My experience. By mdiana2222
On an early Saturday morning in the city of Newark in New Jersey, hundreds of people were gathering gathered in an empty parking lot. Onlookers wondered, and tried trying to make out what was happening. They were not accustomed to such action gathering. Vans entered the parking lot, holding food supplies, hygiene kits, and clothing. With a group from my church, I joined others in setting up separate tables that served as stations for food, hygiene, clothing, and medical aid. People who came to contribute were not only from my church, but also from other mosques and churches. No matter what our differences were, we all shared the same vision of helping the less fortunate. When all the tables were set up, scores of homeless had already gathered around the parking lot. Read more... Link
