Whether or not you're a scarf fan, you should at least know the basics of the thin silk scarf before you decide not to wear one. It could be just the top off your outfit needs to be noticed! There are so many ways to wear a silk scarf, none of them involving warmth, so keep this in mind when you go out. If it's too cold for comfort, save the silk scarf for a spring day but if not, bring it on.
The most obvious place to wear one of these pleasantly thin fabrics is around your neck. Fold the scarf in half so that it makes a triangle shape. Leaving the point of the triangle in the front of your neck, wrap the sides around the back of your neck and to the front. My favorite thing about this kind of scarf is that they always look like a bird's nest when worn correctly. With your cute head popping out the top, you'll be the talk of the town.
Since your neck can only handle so much scarf, get creative and wear the scarf someplace else! Wrap it around your head for a colorful bohemian look. There are two ways to wear a silk scarf in your hair. Either fold it into a triangle and tie the ends at the top or bottom of your head, or fold it into a long rectangle and wrap it around like a crown! The second way is definitely more tough and courageous, but it comes down to you and how you're feeling at the time.A silk scarf could also be worn as a belt. If you're wearing jeans, put it through each loop and tie it at the side in a knot or a bow. Tuck your shirt in to draw attention to your resourcefulness. If you're wearing a patterned shift dress, use a solid silk scarf to draw it together in the middle. If you're wearing a solid colored shift dress, do the same thing with an animal print or polka dotted silk scarf! My favorite kind of dress to wear scarves around the middle with are t-shirt dresses from American Apparel. They're soft, simple, and perfect with a scarf tied around them.
Now silk scarves can be found pretty much anywhere, but you might be surprised to know that the swap meet carries them often. You have to do a bit of searching, like with anything, but it's cheaper there and rewarding to finally find it. It's time to tie your look together!
